The Tax Toad » FAQ

Are you open in the off-season? (And, when IS the off-season?)

Yes! The Tax Toad is open in the off-season, which is generally from mid-June until mid-February. Because our hours and days can vary from year to year based on availability, we always list our hours and days on The Tax Toad Facebook page and our answering service.

How late is too late to get my tax info to you?

It’s never too late, as some of my favourite folks like to say, so let’s get ‘er done! Besides, that means I can postpone housework — a win-win!

How early should I get my tax info to you?

CRA only accepts taxes after they open the filing season and that date changes yearly, but it’s generally mid-February. We’ll do returns as soon as they’re brought in, but we may be restricted on e-filing until opening day, so those will be electronically submitted as soon as CRA accepts them. We also double-check that day for any new info that may be available, to try for a complete return.

How long do people typically wait for their returns?

Generally, CRA states 5-10 business days for refunds. However, if they’re doing pre-audits, have questions, are busy, short-staffed, etc., that can impact the time it takes, and this is unfortunately beyond our control. We don’t work there and cannot speed them up, but we’re happy to “nag” them on your behalf!

What happens if I don’t have all my paperwork?

The good news is, we can access a lot of your paperwork online. And if you don’t have information or receipts you’re eligible to use, we can get a head start on your return and wait for the missing info to be dropped off or online. We can get quite busy, so we always appreciate having the chance to get a head start!
